![]() Communication Minister Government Spokesman Khalid Naciri The expansion of the scope of the freedom of expression is a fundamental and totally irreversible choice for Morocco, Communication Minister, Government Spokesman, Khalid Naciri, affirmed on Thursday. Speaking at the opening session of a debate on the audiovisual industry in Morocco, Naciri pointed out that this strategic choice is evidenced by the "liberalisation of the audiovisual sector and its opening onto private operators," adding that so far about ten radio stations were granted licence. The Moroccan official considered that the newly-established radio stations, both public and private ones, work with a lot of professionalism. He recalled that the audiovisual liberalisation and the diversification of its products have also allowed for the launch of several specialised TV channels (Assadissa, Arrabia, Arriyadia, Aflam TV...). He noted that a parliamentary as well as a Berber television will be launched soon. Naciri stated that his department is currently endeavouring to define the contours of "a well constructed plurality" and to establish "audience measurement" mechanisms that are meant to map the conception of a modern and democratic society."
