Why Choose AST PDF Print E-mail

These are some compelling reasons to choose the American School of Tangier for your child:

The History.
The American School of Tangier has a rich 60+ year history that includes collaborations with Marguerite McBey, Yves-St. Laurent, Paul Webber, Oliver Stone, and countless others. Our past is colorful and has embraced the best of American, Moroccan, and international cultures. It is this rich past that we value and use as a compass for the future.

The Campus.
The campus is the largest and greenest in Tangier and is the best-equipped. From the Nancy Eastman Library to the McBey Gymnasium and outdoor pool, the American School has the resources to help each student prosper. We have fields, playgrounds, dormitories to house visitors, art and music rooms, and many other resources. Our campus is truly an oasis in the center of Tangier.

The Colleges.
The American School of Tangier has a comprehensive college acceptance list. AST sends students to Ivy League schools, the best US state schools, and European schools to study everything from the Sciences and Business to the Arts and Languages. We are a small school, and we excel at placing students in wonderful colleges and universities.

The City.
Tangier is a wonderful city with a great mix of cultures. We have a colorful kasbah and medina as well as a growing city-at-large. Our students are expected to embrace the city as an extension of the campus and participate in regular visits to The American Legation, Cinemateque du Tanger, The Old and the New Ports, as well as many other businesses and not-for-profit establishments.

The Values.
Our focus is education. We enthusiastically welcome students and their families to participate actively in the school community and in the Tangier community. Among other things, we value high academic expectations, personal integrity, an appreciation of diversity, and an empathy for those in need.

The Languages.
Classical Arabic, Moroccan dialect, and French are taught daily, though our primary language of instruction is English. Our graduates are multilingual and commonly score well on Advanced Placement language-specific exams. All graduates are fluent in the English language – preparing them well for university and for studies in fields such as Medicine, Business, and Linguistics.

The Future.
Our enrollment is stable, our resources are expanding, and our expectations are rising. The future is very bright indeed for students currently enrolled in Tangier’s most desired school. Please join us as we celebrate our future.
