Senate Staff Delegation: TALIM hosted five U.S. Senate staffers led by Moroccan Embassy Political Counselor, Lhoucine Rhazoui. The group included:

Laura Friedel (Senator Shelby)
Ryan Hambleton (Senator Bunning)
Joshua Jacobs (Senator Murray)
Joshua Kremer (Senator Bond)
Brian Walsh (Senator Martinez)

They were the guests of the Moroccan government.

Summer Arabic Language Program: Thanks to the devoted efforts of Program Director, Becky Schulthies, assisted by her husband Mohammed, the Arabic language program for 45 American university students ended another successful season. Some of the students took advantage of the Legation Research Library and others benefited from home stays organized by TALIM Assistant Director, Yhtimad Bouziane.

Ramadan Activity: The month long fast of Ramadan began the last week of August. I attended a ftour (break-fast) organized by the Tangier Rotary Club. The Moroccan Tangier Medina Foundation (headquartered at TALIM) distributed food packages at the Legation to neighborhood women and we participated with another Moroccan association in the distribution of food and flour to additional medina residents.

Visitors: We hosted 360 English visitors from two cruise ships as well as many drop-in visitors from around the world.

Chargé d’Affaires Robert Jackson from the American Embassy in Rabat and Mrs. Jackson joined me for lunch at the Legation. The Chargé came here to attend the King’s birthday celebration (Fete de Jeunesse) in Tetouan.

We hosted the new Headmaster of the American School of Tangier, Dr. Brian Horvath, accompanied by his wife and son and on another occasion several newly- arrived teachers along with Eliza Eastman, head of the lower school. (I am on the Board of the American School of Tangier)
