TALIM is a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1976 by private American citizens with long ties to Morocco. It is true that TALIM is located in a historical landmark property owned by the U.S. government who is our landlord. But there is no U.S. government activity at this location. TALIM hosts thousands of visitors to this historical landmark whose elegant furnishings and fine art are the result of private donations from dozens of individuals. Our Research Library too is largely the result of private donations. As the representative of the American research organization, the American Institute for Maghrib Studies (AIMS), we benefit from AIMS grants that finance our research library and staff as well as our periodic AIMS conferences and our scholarship program for American and North African scholars. As a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers located in Washington, D.C., we participate in meetings of American centers around the world and benefit from CAORC support—for example, it is through CAORC that we offer scholars the use of the JSTOR website that allows them free access to hundreds of professional journals. |
