As the representative in Morocco of the American Institute for Maghrib Studies (AIMS), TALIM works in conjunction with AIMS centers in Tunis and Oran. For example, each AIM center takes turns hosting international AIMS conferences that bring together scholars from Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, and the United States as well as participants from Europe, sub-Sahara Africa, and the Middle East. Our Maghribi scholar program is meant to encourage North African scholars to conduct research in their neighbor countries of the Maghrib.
Our vision is inclusive, aimed at constructive dialogue with all countries of the Maghrb including Libya and Mauritania. AIMS with its three centers in North Africa is unique among the 25 American overseas research centers scattered around the world. Though established in North Africa, TALIM participates in these outward looking efforts. In June 2009 TALIM will host the next AIMS conference with invitees coming not only from our Maghrib neighbors but from sub-Sahara Africa to discuss North-South cultural and historical relationships.
